The heartwood ranges from light brown to dark red-brown hues. The sapwood is usually white to light brown in colour. The presence of a wavy grain can produce an attractive pattern. The wood has a slightly greasy feel that aids machining and boring. The grain is moderately coarse and the timber is very hard. It finishes well and will readily accept paint and polish.
