Cupressus lusitanica is an evergreen conifer tree with a conic crown, growing to 40m tall. It is a fast growing and drought resistant. It is widely cultivated for ornamental and timber uses.
The heartwood is yellowish brown to pinkish brown usually distinct from the paler sapwood. The grain is usually straight and the texture fine and fairly even with frequent knots. The timber weighs around 470 kg per cubic meter when dried .
Cypress works easily with both hand and machine tools, but frequent knots can be troublesome. The timber nails ,glues and screws well and gives a good finish. Cypress is strong in relation to its weight.
